Herpes (herpes simples, herpes labial) Quem tem?
O herpes é uma infecção causada pelo Herpes simplex virus. O contato com o vírus ocorre geralmente na infância, mas muitas vezes a doença não se manifesta nesta época. O vírus atravessa a pele e, percorrendo um nervo, se instala no organismo de forma latente, até que venha a ser reativado.
A reativação do vírus pode ocorrer devido a diversos fatores desencadeantes, tais como: exposição à luz solar intensa, fadiga física e mental, estresse emocional, febre ou outras infecções que diminuam a resistência orgânica. Algumas pessoas tem maior possibilidade de apresentar os sintomas do herpes. Outras, mesmo em contato com o vírus, nunca apresentam a doença, pois sua imunidade não permite o seu desenvolvimento.
Manifestações clínicas
As localizações mais frequentes são os lábios e a região genital, mas o herpes pode aparecer em qualquer lugar da pele. Uma vez reativado, o herpes se apresenta da seguinte forma:
inicialmente pode haver coceira e ardência no local onde surgirão as lesões.
a seguir, formam-se pequenas bolhas agrupadas como num buquê sobre área avermelhada e inchada.
as bolhas rompem-se liberando líquido rico em vírus e formando uma ferida. É a fase de maior perigo de transmissão da doença.
a ferida começa a secar formando uma crosta que dará início à cicatrização.
a duração da doença é de cerca de 5 a 10 dias.

I dont think i have genital herpes, but if i did, should i break out when i have a cold sore? I know they are caused from stress, and things like that, so is that what happens with genital herpes also?
Taking daily acyclovir for genital herpes, does birth control still work?
I started takin daily acyclovir 200mg (script at wal-mart) and I just got back on birth control (ortho try..whatever..) so I know that birth control doesn’t work with antibiotics.. so does my birth control going to cooperate with this daily suppressive therapy for genital herpes?

Can I get genital herpes from masturbating?
I found a small bump on the shaft of my penis two years ago, but I have never been with anyone. Then a week ago, after watching a TV show, I grew paranoid that maybe I had genital herpes. I don’t recall having any symptoms, like cold sores anywhere on my penis. I’ve had genital itching from time to time. I’ve masturbated, but that’s about it. Am I being really paranoid? How long would you be on Valtrex 500 mg for genital herpes and how many mg can you take per day?
Physician gives Rx for Valtrex 500 mg – taking 1500 mg per take – you are given 120 tablets/capsules – I have asked a 2 questions in reference to genital herpes; I have been seperated from my husband since Dec 10th 2005; “we” have not been sexually active. I have recently found out that he was prescribed 120 Valtrex 500 mg and received the Rx on 4/7 – We are in marriage counseling, and out next session is on 4/18. Also he has been prescribed 100 of prednisone 10 mg? Help me understand this!

Can we catch genital herpes from a co-worker by using the same bathroom?
We just found out that a co-worker has genital herpes, and though we do not want to treat her any different, we are worried that we all share the same bathroom(which only has one stall) We don’t want to be stupid about this either and say something that will make her feel uncomfartable, but we all have kids and partners that would not be too happy if we come home with an STD. (also one of the girls in the office is pregnant) So my question is can genital herpes be passed on by any other ways other than sexual contact? Please only give us seroius answers.
